How do you celebrate aging? Every day that passes, we are aging whether we may notice or not. Aging is a beautiful thing full of growth and celebration, but there are many people who do not embrace this stage of life. In order to embrace who we are and what we have become, we must take the time to pour love and time back into ourselves. It is so easy to get stuck in the same routine day after day whether you are working, running kids or grandkids to practice, or headed to doctor’s appointments it’s time to throw some new hobbies into your busy schedule.

How to celebrate aging:

  1. Start walking daily with a friend or a pet.
  2. Don’t forget to smile.
  3. Start moving! Find an activity you love to do.
  4. Take up a new activity or volunteer at a local nonprofit.
  5. Spend more time with those you love.
  6. You don’t always have to act your age. Don’t forget to have fun!
  7. Pick up the phone or write a letter to stay in contact with friends and family.
  8. Be positive! Don’t forget that every day that you wake up is a gift.
  9. Work on your legacy! Have you ever thought about creating a photo album or writing an autobiography for your family?
  10. Dance! Turn on the radio and let time escape you for a moment.
  11. Find a cooking class to take.
  12. Finish that puzzle you have been working on.
  13. Share your wisdom with the younger generation.
  14. Spend a night laughing at the movies with friends.
  15. Go fishing.
  16. Hit up your local library and check out a good book to read.

While there are so many things you can do to celebrate aging, it is important that you find something you love to do and make an effort to do it daily. It can be so easy to get stuck at home and lose your sense of purpose when your family and friends are stuck in their busy season of life. Just because your loved ones may seem too busy for you, it doesn’t mean they care for you any less. That’s what it is so important to find yourself again no matter what age you are. As we age we still have so many new things, new places, new hobbies, and new parts of ourselves to discover.
